Why I'm raising Money: I’m walking for the amazing Christie hospital in Manchester. The first time I heard of this place was when I was told that my then 16-year old daughter was going to be treated there following a diagnosis of stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which is a blood cancer. We had no idea what a cancer hospital would be like and I was absolutely terrified. Our first conversation with Madison’s consultant is something I’ll never forget. He acknowledged how very poorly she was, something nobody else was honest about, and then said “I’m confident that we’re working towards curing you completely”.
I’m so grateful this wonderful place exists and for the people who make it what it is.
From the very first visit, to ongoing care during remission, the Christie has been exceptional. They provide everything you never knew you needed and it’s so much more than treatment.
In one very surreal moment, which I still can’t believe happened and seemed ‘normal’, I took Madison for an appointment in the Teenage and Young Adult clinic, before seeing how my dad’s appointment had gone when he saw his consultant in another department. One in remission and one where the only chance came too late.
So what am I raising money for? So this amazing place can continue to create kinder treatments with fewer horrific side effects. So those people I will forever call the geniuses can develop treatments and cures for those who are told there is nothing more that can be done. And so they can continue to look after those who they work with, and their families, in ways you can’t understand unless you’ve suddenly found that you need them.

All donations are made to the Keswick to Barrow Walk Charity. A percentage of this donation will be used to fund the cost of the walk and support local charities in South Cumbria/North Lancashire. The remainder of the donation will be donated to the Walker's (Team) nominated charity(ies) as listed below.
