2020/21 Walk Update

With 2020 drawing to a close and New Year's resolutions around the corner, the K2B Committee wanted to wish everyone Happy Holidays and advise of our plans for the next year.

The Committee plan to keep in close contact with local Councils and Cumbria Police to understand how things are changing and what we can achieve in terms of an event. We plan to make a firmer announcement in March for the year but would like to share the provisional stance.

While news of the vaccine being distributed is excellent news, we do not believe we will be able to hold a full event in May.

The 2020 postponed K2B and C2B walks are pencilled in for 18th September 2021. This will of course be subject to the guidelines at the time but we are hopeful that by this point the situation will be such that the walk can go ahead.

We plan to hold the Resolution Cup Challenge that was postponed in September 2020 prior to the full walk in September 2021 if circumstances allow.

All walkers already registered for the 2020 walk will remain so and teams will remain as is. We look to reopen registration in May which will allow team coordinators to modify their teams and if spaces are available new walkers to join.

The Walk Day In Case of Emergency (ICE) phone number has changed. It is now 0777 888 4020. The new number will be printed on lanyards and route cards.

Support documents

The following documents are applicable to both the K2B and the C2B Walks. We recommend that the Team Co-ordinator takes responsibility for downloading these documents, providing all team supporters with copies, and briefing walkers and supporters on the team's walk day arrangements. We expect high standards of behaviour from walkers and supporters, to ensure that the event runs smoothly, and to preserve its excellent safety record.

Team Support Handbook

For detailed support instructions with route maps, please download and print this document. You should carry a copy of this document in each support vehicle, as mobile phone coverage in the Lake District is unreliable, so you may not be able to view it online. If you want to save the document as a PDF, we suggest that you download it from the website first, and then use your own standard print facility to create a PDF. The handbook is updated every year, and sometimes changes within a few days of the walk due to emergent problems on the route, so make sure that you print the latest version as close to walk day as possible.

Do not use a handbook from any other source, such as Facebook. Unofficial versions are circulating in a shorter format "to save paper", which are sometimes based on handbooks from previous years, or do not contain the latest maps, telephone numbers, and safety instructions. Please inform the walk organisers if you are offered an unofficial handbook, so that we can arrange for its removal.
